PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Mr. Marlinghaus joined Quality Testing and Engineering, Inc. as Staff Engineer in April 2003. He has seventeen years of experience in the materials testing field. His current responsibilities include: project management, coordinating and reviewing construction observation, scheduling and supervising of field personnel, material testing data review and report generation. Mr. Marlinghaus has extensive experience in structural surveys of both reinforced concrete and timber framed buildings.

REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE

  • Alton Middle School and High School – Alton, Illinois. Materials Testing Project Manager of addition, alteration and upgrade of existing schools. Included testing of fill, foundation bearing capacity, asphalt, rock base, tilt-up panels, settlement observation and construction of 30 ft tall multi-tiered retaining wall.
  • First Community Credit Union – Chesterfield Valley, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of the 70,000 Square Foot Headquarters of First Community Credit Union featured in the January/February 2006 issue of Construction News & Review. The project included auger cast piles, elevated lightweight decks and sprayed fire resistant material.
  • Anheuser-Busch World Wide Beverage Distribution Center – Granite City, Illinois. Engineering management of technical support for the material quality control testing of new tilt-up warehouse. Included testing of fill, foundation-bearing capacity, rock base, concrete and asphalt.
  • Arch Ground Maintenance Facility – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of new maintenance facility for the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial grounds managed. Included testing of fill, foundation-bearing capacity, rock base, concrete and asphalt.
  • The Boss – St. Louis County, Missouri. Materials Testing Technician of wooden roller coaster at 6-Flags over Mid-America. Requiring observation of foundation bearing capacity, rock anchors and fresh concrete sampling.
  • Columbia Bottoms Wetlands Reclamation – St. Louis County, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of wetlands reclamation along the Mississippi River near the confluence of the Missouri River. Included testing of fill and concrete in the levee and extensive utility relocation to verify compliance with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers specifications.
  • DeSmet High School – St. Louis County, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of school and parking lot expansion. Included testing of fill, foundation bearing capacity, asphalt, rock base and concrete.
  • Eads Bridge – St. Louis, Missouri, East St. Louis, Illinois. Engineering management of technical support for the material quality control testing of repair and upgrade of the 19th-century bridge spanning the Mississippi River. Required testing of concrete at the plant and at point of placement and of approach sub-grade and rock base.
  • Florissant Street Repairs – Florissant, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of repairs to existing municipal streets. Included testing of asphalt overlays, rock base, and concrete repairs.
  • Fragile Forest and Zoo Railroad – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of expanded St. Louis Zoo great apes exhibit and renovations to the railroad maintenance facilities. Included testing of drilled piers, fill, foundation bearing capacity, rock base, reinforcing steel and concrete, and evaluation of existing rail station for renovation.
  • Grand Basin and Post Dispatch Lake – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of renovation to Forest Park’s main lakes and construction of modern Boathouse facility. Included development of foundation stabilization plan for new Grand Basin and boat dock wall and testing of fill and concrete.

  • Illinois Distributor – Belleville, Illinois. Engineering management of technical support for the material quality control testing of new distribution center. Included testing of fill, foundation bearing capacity, rock base, concrete, floor flatness and asphalt.
  • The Jewel Box – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of 1904 Worlds Fair building renovation project. Included testing of foundation bearing capacity, fill, rock base and concrete.
  • Kings Pointe Subdivision Street Evaluation – St. Louis County, Missouri. Evaluated condition of subdivision street pavement to aid in development of five-year street repair plan.
  • Lindberg Tunnel – St. Louis County, Missouri. Engineering management of technical support for the material quality assurance portion of the 2,000-ft. tunnel redirecting US highway 67 beneath Lambert International Airport expansion runways. Concrete plant production had to be strictly monitored in accordance with the Missouri Department of Transportation guidelines. Developed quality assurance program for pre-cast plant observation.
  • Lindenwood University Center for Fine and Performing Arts – St. Charles, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of the 85,000 Square Foot performing arts theater started in December 2005. Project included fill control during a difficult wet and cold winter period and a geopier, rammed aggregate foundation system.
  • Maryland Heights Expressway – Maryland Heights, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of 2-mile length of roadway including two new bridges. Included testing of fill, rock base, reinforcing steel, concrete and asphalt.
  • Natural Bridge Road West – St. Louis County, Missouri. Engineering management of technical support for the construction of redirected county road around Lambert International Airport expansion runways. Concrete plant production had to be strictly monitored in accordance with the Missouri Department of Transportation guidelines. Developed quality assurance program to verify roadway flatness profile was in accordance with Missouri Department of Transportation standards.
  • Penguin and Puffin Coast – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Testing Project Manager of new St. Louis Zoo exhibit. Included testing of fill, shoring, foundation bearing, rock base, reinforcing steel, concrete and asphalt.
  • Renaissance St. Louis Suites Hotel – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Engineer of 25 story concrete apartment building. Required sampling of building members to aid structural engineer in renovation design of eighty year-old building for use as modern luxury hotel.
  • Wal-Mart Store – Cross Lanes, West Virginia. Fill Control Technician of 3,000,000 cubic yard grading project requiring the leveling of 3 ridges into 2 valleys. Requiring observation of compaction using both standard testing procedure and dynamic compaction.
  • The Wireworks – St. Louis, Missouri. Materials Engineer of 2-story warehouse renovation project. Evaluated condition of one hundred year-old roof trusses to determine serviceability for renovation of warehouse to apartment building.
